Monkey Man star Dev Patel has been dating Australian actress Tilda Cobahm-Hervey for almost five years. While the couple has kept most details of their life together private, they’ve shared some tidbits, including the fact their love story started while they worked on a movie together.
Ahead, everything to know about Cobham-Hervey and her romance with Patel.
Cobham-Hervey is an actress.
In a 2023 interview with Fest Magazine, Cobham-Hervey shared that she grew up as circus performer. When she was 14 years old, she co-founded the group Gravity & Other Myths.
“It wasn’t the most conventional route to being an actress, but I loved it,” she told Vogue Australia in 2020.
She got her break into acting at 19 years old in 2013, when she starred in the award-winning short film, 52 Tuesdays. The movie played at Sundance Film Festival and caught the eyes of several casting agencies.
On IMDb, she is credited with directing, writing, and starring in the 2017 award-winning short film, A Field Guide to Being a 12-Year-Old Girl.
One year later, she starred in Hotel Mumbai. The next year, she played Australian singer, actress, and activist Helen Reddy in the biopic I Am Woman. When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, she shared how having her heavy performing background helped play the role of the iconic but often overlooked ’70s singer.
“I’ve never played a character based on a real person before, so that was a huge challenge anyway,” she said. “I approached it by going through and trying to find the bits that were similar about us, and then sort of going through and finding the bits I admired about her and trying to lean into some of those things. My mom’s a dancer, my dad’s a lighting designer. I grew up in the back of theaters and on the road as a kid, and Helen’s parents were vaudeville stars and had their own radio show, and Helen started performing very young as well. I definitely felt like there was similarities there in the way we grew up. We both moved to America for more opportunities. When I moved here, it was a lot easier than when she moved over. And it was because of women like her that paved the way for the next generation.”
She also opened up to Vogue Australia about how she initially struggled with the idea of acting being her legitimate career.
“When you enter the country and they ask you what your job is, I’ve only recently been brave enough to write ‘actor,’” she said. “I love order, I love to know what I’m doing the next day, and I’ve chosen to be in an industry where that’s impossible. It takes me outside of my comfort zone. [But] I’m still very interested in doing lots of different things. I’ve just started writing a script, adapting a book, and I’ve been loving that. I think growing up the way I did and getting to learn about all sides of production has been so great...I think it’s so important to engage in learning every aspect of the job and the creative process.”
Cobham-Hervey and Patel first met on set in 2016.
The two actors meeting may just have been fate. In 2016, Patel landed the starring role in the action-thriller film, Hotel Mumbai. Initially, Australian actress Teresa Palmer was cast as the female lead; however, she had to pull out due to her pregnancy. Cobham-Hervey was cast last-minute as Palmer’s replacement. Filming took place in the city of Adelaide, Cobham-Hervey’s hometown, where she reportedly gave Patel a tour and introduced him to his favorite local restaurant, Jasmin.
Patel and Cobham-Hervey first sparked dating rumors in 2017.
In February 2017, Cobham-Hervey spent some time with Patel and his mom. People shared a paparazzi picture of the Lion actor with an arm around each of them as they strolled through Los Angeles.
In some photos obtained by The Sun in March 2017, Patel and Cobham-Hervey were seen walking hand-in-hand in L.A., heading to lunch followed by a bookstore date. Afterwards, Patel rented a limo to take them to Echo Park, where they had shared some time alone pedal-boating on the lake. While on the water, they were photographed cozying up and kissing.
In September 2018, Cobham-Hervey and Patel both attended the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and InStyle party for the 2018 International Toronto Film Festival but were photographed separately. It is unclear if they spent time together inside the event.
Neither Cobham-Hervey nor Patel have confirmed when they officially became a couple, but it appears that their relationship turned romantic in early 2017.
Cobham-Hervey and Patel directed a short film together.
In 2021, the couple worked together on an animated comedy short called Roborovski. It took home Best Australian Short Animation at the Flickerfest International Short Film Festival.
Patel and Cobham-Hervey made their red carpet debut as a couple in April 2024.
The L.A. premiere of Patel’s upcoming action movie, Monkey Man, took place on Wednesday, April 3. For the first time, Cobham-Hervey posed with him on the red carpet as his girlfriend. The couple smiled and held hands in front of the cameras. They previously attended their Hotel Mumbai premieres together but just as co-workers.
Cobham-Hervey is 27 years old.
Cobham-Hervey was born in Australia on Sept. 4, 1994, making her a Virgo. Patel, whose birthday is on April 23, 1990, is a Taurus. Both earth signs, they are well matched in terms of astrological compatibility.
