Dethklok are back. The Metalocalypse heroes have unleashed Dethalbum IV — the animated band’s fourth studio album — coinciding with the release of the new movie Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar. It marks the band’s first new album in 11 years.
Declared the band’s press release: “We are here to proclaim the sheer brutality of the new DETHKLOK album, a sonic force that shall shatter the very foundations of your mortal existence! Prepare yourselves, for it is a deathly masterpiece that will leave your souls trembling in awe!”
As fans of the animated show are no doubt aware, Dethklok features the hilarious ragtag lineup of William Murderface, Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Nathan Explosion, Pickles, and Toki Wartooth.
In reality, Metalocalypse co-creator Brendon Small, legendary drummer Gene Hoglan, and others are behind the music of Dethklok, whose new album is another slab of extreme metal that transcends mere novelty. As is the case with the previous Dethklok albums, the music stands on its own, even when removed from the context of the show.
That’s also why Small and company are able to take Dethklok on the road and perform the material live. The band is set to embark on a co-headlining tour with BABYMETAL that kicks off on August 30th in Houston. Get tickets here.
