Adele and Simon Konecki broke up months before announcing their separation to the public.

Though the couple, who shares son, Angelo, 6, released a statement on Friday, April 19, confirming their unexpected divorce, Us Weekly reports that they actually split "eight or nine months ago."

"Adele and her partner have separated," an email statement to AP from Adele's representatives said. "They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment."

According to an Us Weekly insider, the couple's shocking separation is far from contentious and simply came after they realized that they had simply fallen out of love with one another after nearly seven years together.

"Their relationship evolved and they became more like friends than lovers," the source explained. "They realized the romantic love was no longer there. They’re disappointed, but it just didn’t work out."

As for Adele, who has been busy recording her fourth album as of late, her son remains her top priority.

"Adele’s son is everything to her," an insider told People. "Her whole life revolves around him."

The singer famously stays out of the public eye between album cycles, refraining from posting on social media and avoiding paparazzi as she goes about her relatively "normal" life in London. Insiders explain that a lot of this is to take care of her son and protect him from the spotlight that comes with her career.

"She takes him to the park or on a hike and to birthday parties for his friends," another People source added. "It’s clear that she tries to create a happy and normal childhood for Angelo."

The first People source predicted that Adele and Konecki's divorce won't become tense or fraught with drama, despite the singer's reported $180 million net worth (reports say that the couple did not sign a prenup). At the end of the day, they're both committed to raising their son together in a healthy environment.

"I just can’t see her divorce getting messy because she’s so careful when it comes to her son," the source said. "She’s always five steps ahead in terms of how a decision will affect him."
