Perry was previously a dog dad to a doodle mix named Alfred, whom he shared with ex Molly Hurwitz. The pair began dating in 2018 and got engaged in November 2020 before calling it quits in June 2021.

Since their split, Alfred has been a regular staple on Hurwitz's Instagram. In a post in September, she opened up about her close connection to the pooch alongside a series of photos.

"Alfred is three. He is very annoying a lot of the time, but he is truly the most loving potato. He entered my life during some dark depression, and he helped get me far away from that. He is also cute as all fuck. Cheers to you, Alfredo 💕 #adoptdontshop" she wrote.

"They were understanding, and they were patient," Perry said. "It's like penguins. In nature, when one is sick or very injured, the other penguins surround it and prop it up and walk around until that penguin can walk on its own. And that's kind of what the cast did for me."

Perry's death was confirmed in an exclusive statement shared with PEOPLE from the late actor's family. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to PEOPLE on Sunday that an autopsy has been completed, and results are pending a toxicology report.
