Despite Controversy, Leah Remini Soldiers On for Second Season of Scientology Exposé

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath will be getting a second season on A&E. Leah Remini, a member of the religion since the age of nine, left the church nearly four years ago after a dispute over a policy that forbade questioning the leadership of David Miscavige. Since then, she has worked to expose Scientology’s practices of “disconnection” from family and friends outside the religion, as well as the alleged abuse of members of the Sea Org religious order.

Scientology representatives have disputed all of Remini’s claims and issued numerous statements, such as one to the Hollywood Reporter saying, “Real transparency would be for A&E to detail all forms of compensation made to sources spreading religious hate and bigotry on Leah Remini’s show.”

The 10 episodes of the show’s second season are currently being produced and will continue Remini’s quest to tell the stories of former members and their “disconnected” families. Among them is Mike Rinder, the former executive director of Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs, who now serves as consultant on the series.

The series also interviewed Jeff Hawkins, a former Scientology marketing executive, who claims he was assaulted by Scientology chairman David Miscavige multiple times.

The normally litigious organization has not yet brought any lawsuits against the series, but it has disputed all of their claims.
