Who Will Design Pippa Middleton's Wedding Dress?

Pippa Middletonalmoststole the spotlight walking down the aisle as Princess Kate's maid of honor five years ago, but what will the royal sibling wear for her own nuptials next year?

"My instinct is that she will chose British," style expert Hilary Alexander tells PEOPLE, adding that whatever designer she chooses, she will be mindful of any comparisons with her sister's ivory lace dress designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen.

"She won't want her bridal gown to compete with Kate's – the wedding dress of the century!"

So with McQueen likely not a contender – who else might Pippa turn to?

"She could go for something lavish and romantic by Marchesa or upmarket luxe by Ralph & Russo," says Alexander, who also speculates something a little more informal could be in the cards. "Other possibilities include Temperley, which both she and Kate wear regularly or Jenny Packham."

Pippa is certainly a fan of Alice Temperley's designs, having attended the British designer's London Fashion Week show back in 2011 – the only fashion show in which she has sat front row.

Emilia Wickstead, the Brit-based designer behind Pippa's silk wool jacquard cream dress worn to Princess Charlotte's christening last summer, would also be a fitting choice. Known for her ladylike but contemporary designs, Wickstead is a favorite of sister Kate and was the recent designer of choice for Lady Charlotte Wellesley (a descendent of Queen Victoria) at her lavish society wedding in Spain recently attended by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and other European aristocrats.

If her wedding to financier James Mathews is set to take place in her quaint home village of Bucklebury, then perhaps Pippa will look to a local designer.

"She could surprise us all by picking one of the many designers in Berkshire, such as Lyndsey Clark, Catherine Blades or White Rose," suggests Alexander, who adds that whatever the design, "the dress will look as good from the back as the front!"
