"We are filled with hope and relief," the "Dancing With the Stars" judge says in his latest health update.

Derek Hough's wife Hayley Erbert is doing well in the wake of her hospitalization for an emergency craniectomy.

Hough, 38, shared a hopeful update in a new Instagram post on Friday, marveling that the recovery process for Erbert, 29, has been "nothing short of a miracle" despite the long road to recovery ahead.

Erbert was hospitalized Dec. 6 after she became disoriented at the end of the couple's Symphony of Dance concert stop in Washington, D.C., where she was diagnosed with an intracranial hematoma (a collection of blood in the skull) from a burst blood vessel, according to the Dancing With the Stars judge.

The past week has been a "challenging journey," Hough shared in his newest update, "but today, we are filled with hope and relief." Erbert is "doing well," Hough said, though "she still has a ways to go with another surgery, hopefully in a few weeks, to insert a skull implant to replace the piece that was removed during the craniectomy."

The procedure will "restore the skull to its natural shape and protect the brain from injury," Hough said, thanking hospital staff for the "incredible support and medical care" that his wife has received. The medical scare has "been a profound reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly things can change," he said, "but it has also shown us the incredible strength and resilience that lies within us and the power of having a supportive community around us."

Hough concluded, "While this isn’t the holiday season either of us envisioned, it’s one that we’re incredibly grateful to have. We look forward to cherishing these moments with a deeper appreciation for life and the people in it."

Hough and Erbert, who wed in an intimate, star-studded ceremony back in August after eight years of dating, embarked on their Symphony of Dance tour in September. The remaining dates have since been postponed amid Erbert's recovery.
