The surviving members of Depeche Mode have shared a photo in the studio in what seems to be the first public confirmation of new music since the death of founding member Andy Fletcher.

Fletcher passed away May 26th, 2022 of an aortic dissection. Singer Dave Gahan and primary songwriter Martin Gore did not directly mention him in their social media post about returning to the studio, but it’s clear that their dearly departed friend is on their mind. “Finding stability in what we know and love,” they wrote. “Focusing on what gives life meaning and purpose.” Check out the post below.

Depeche Mode’s most recent album, Spirit, came out in 2017. Last year, Dave Gahan and Soulsavers shared the cover album, Imposter, and in November Gahan spoke to Consequence and Kyle Meredith With about how the album was his most personal yet.

Revisit our look back at the pivotal role that Fletcher played in Depeche Mode.
