Denzel Washington, Terrence Howard, Queen Latifah Receive ABFF Honors

On Wednesday, BET aired the American Black Film Festival Honors to present many of Hollywood’s biggest stars with awards. Denzel Washington was the Hollywood Legacy Honoree. He thanked Fences playwright August Wilson, among others. He said, “Understand that it’s the grace of God, hard work, humility, and a lot of love from family and all those who made a sacrifice so that I could be in this position.”

Queen Latifah was the Entertainment Icon Honoree and thanked the creative partners she’s worked with throughout her career.

Director F. Gary Gray was the Excellence in the Arts Honoree for his film career, including Friday, The Italian Job, and Straight Outta Compton. Actor Terrence Howard was also bestowed the same honor and jokingly complained to Gray about not being cast as Mos Def’s part in The Italian Job.
