'Demolition Man' at 25: Taco Bell offers futuristic dining experience celebrating the Wesley Snipes classic

Is it 2018 or 2032? It was hard to tell if you walked into the Taco Bell pop-up restaurant in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter during Comic-Con. The Greystone Prime Steakhouse & Seafood restaurant space was transformed into a futuristic upscale Taco Bell like the one featured in Demolition Man, starring Sylvester Stallone, Sandra Bullock, and Wesley Snipes. If you watched the 1993 film, you know that Taco Bell was the chain restaurant that won the “franchise wars.”

The special event was timed to commemorate Demolition Man’s 25th anniversary. Details from the sci-fi/action movie were elegantly placed throughout the pop-up restaurant. From servers dressed in the same costumes featured in the film to the three seashells prominently placed in the bathrooms, fans of the cult classic could see great thought was put into this unique dining experience.

The menu even incorporated items that were served in the film, such as the Joy Joy Hors D’oeuvre on a silver plate. Taco Bell did sneak in a 2018 food item that’s available for a limited time, Nacho Fries.

Fans who were able to get into the first-come, first-served restaurant for the four-course meal also had the opportunity to take photos with “San Angeles” wall art and memorabilia from the film.

2032 is just around the corner. Did the creators of the movie know something we didn’t?
