Demi Moore Tells Diane Sawyer About How She Was Sexually Assaulted At 15
A New Memoir
Actress Demi Moore is making waves lately with the release of her searing new memoir, Inside Out. The Ghost and G.I. Jane star opens up about her childhood, her career, and her relationships in the book, making it a must read for celebrity gossip connoisseurs.
Her Rough Childhood
In her memoir, Moore opened up about her troubled childhood. Her parents were alcoholics, and Moore's mother attempted suicide a number of times, which Moore had to witness. After her parents divorced, her mother would take her along to bars so that they would be noticed and she could pick up men.
Telling Diane Sawyer Everything
One particularly painful story from the book involved a night out with a man that her mother knew that ended in rape. Moore was only 15.
"It was rape. And a devastating betrayal, revealed by the man's cruel question: 'How does it feel to be whored out by your mother for $500?'"
In a new interview with Diane Sawyer, Moore explained that she didn't believe that her mother "sold her."
"I think, in my deep heart, no. I don't think it was a straightforward transaction. But she still did give him the access and put me in harm's way."
Detailing Her Relationships
Moore also opened up about her marriages to actors Bruce Willis and Ashton Kutcher, particularly the toll that being married to Kutcher took on her mental state.
When Sawyer asked why she wrote the memoir, Moore explained that it was her way of processing.
"I guess the fundamental question that came forward for me was, 'How did I get here?' I mean, from where I started to what I've experienced, where I've been, like, how did I get here? If I were to look back, I would say I blinded myself and I lost myself."
