Demi Lovato Will Sing the National Anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl: 'See You in Miami'

Just two days after revealing she’ll take the 2020 Grammy Awards‘ stage later this month, Demi Lovato has announced she’ll perform the national anthem at Super Bowl LIV.

The pop superstar, 27, broke the news on Instagram, sharing an official photo touting her performance and writing, “Singing the National Anthem at #SBLIV 🏈 🏈 🏈 See you in Miami 🌴 @NFL.”

Lovato hasn’t performed live since before her drug overdose in July 2018. The announcement came just over a month after she posted a cryptic message saying, “The next time you hear from me, I’ll be singing….”

The musician has been open about her sobriety journey after overdosing at her home in Hollywood Hills in July 2018 — and has recently dropped hints about a return to music. Though Lovato has not officially announced a new single or album, any new music would be the first solo offering from the star since she left rehab in November 2018.

Her last single, “Sober,” came out June 2018, about one month before the overdose.

The Super Bowl performance will come after she takes the stage for the Grammys on Jan. 26.

Lovato follows in the footsteps of Gladys Knight, who performed “The Star Spangled Banner” at the 2019 Super Bowl. The year prior, Pink took the field to sing the national anthem while battling the flu, before the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots to take home the trophy. Country star Luke Bryan sang the anthem in 2017.

She also joins a stacked lineup with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira headlining the halftime show.

Super Bowl LIV will be broadcast live from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on Feb. 2.
