Demi Lovato Recently Checked into a Treatment Facility but Not Because She Relapsed: Source

After checking out of a treatment facility in November following a terrifying overdose last July, Demi Lovato is continuing to focus on her recovery.

Despite reports Lovato relapsed last month, a source close to the singer, 26, tells PEOPLE exclusively the rumors are not true. However, the star did choose to check into a treatment facility recently to continue working on her health.

“She has not relapsed since she overdosed. She did recently go to a facility, but it was her own decision,” says the source. “It was one trip to a treatment facility for a few weeks outside of Los Angeles.”

Now back home in L.A., Lovato is “taking care of herself and is in a positive place,” adds the source. “She’s working out and getting back in the studio to make music.”

In late January, Lovato celebrated six months of being substance-free by sharing a photo of her sobriety coin to her Instagram Stories.

She was also gifted a Funfetti dessert from Susiecakes, which came with a note reading, “Happy 6 Mo. We are so f—ing proud of you.”

“Best day ever,” Lovato labeled an Instagram Story shot of the sugary treat.

The entertainer first broke her silence following her overdose on social media on Aug. 5 when she shared an update on her health following her hospitalization.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” Lovato wrote. “I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” she added, before praising her fans for standing by her through the difficult time.”

Lovato concluded, “I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”

On Tuesday, the “Confident” singer looked happy and healthy during a boxing session with her trainer, Jay Glazer, and revealed she knocked out one of his teeth.

“Holy s— I literally knocked @jayglazer’s tooth out during training this morning — while he was wearing a mouth piece!!!! Hahahahaha sorry (not sorry) Jay!!!” Lovato posted on Instagram on Tuesday.

In the accompanying video, Glazer rings a bell and holds up his now-loose front tooth. With a grin, he announces to the gym, “Demi knocked my tooth out!”

Lovato has been a regular at the gym, Unbreakable Performance Center, ever since leaving rehab in November.

The “Tell Me You Love Me” singer is a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and shared a post-fight selfie in December.

Glazer has also been one of her biggest supporters. After Lovato received her blue belt, the second of seven levels, in August 2017, he boasted about her on Instagram.

“I’m more proud of the work @ddlovato puts in with nobody watching than I am what she does with the world watching,” Glazer wrote. “Congrats on achieving your blue belt today in #bjj, YOU put the grind in!”
