Demi Lovato Celebrates Three Years of Sobriety, New Record Label

Demi Lovato was on Today Thursday and chatted with Savannah Guthrie about mental health and addiction. The former Disney star checked into rehab almost 5 years ago, and it was there that she learned she had bipolar disorder.

Now, 3 years sober, the 22-year-old singer and actress is a paid spokesperson for “Be Vocal,” a campaign to raise awareness for mental health, something Lovato thinks is very important, “I wish that more people can understand from a point where it’s not a choice to have an addiction. And with bipolar disorder, it’s a chemical imbalance and it’s something that you have to figure out your own treatment with your own team. In order to do that, it takes time. Finally I’m in a great place where I can say recovery is possible.”

Things are on an upward trend for Lovato, aside from her work with Be Vocal, she announced she’s teaming up with Nick Jonas and her manager Phil McIntyre to launch a new record label, and that she has new music in the works.

It clear to see, Lovato is happy she has found a way to remain sober, “It’s definitely changed my life in every single way possible, and yes, I went through a lot of stuff when I was young, but I’m so glad that I did so I can live a longer, happier life sooner rather than later.”
