DeMarco Murray retires from football after 7 seasons

Running back DeMarco Murray, a three-time Pro Bowler and former Offensive Player of the year, announced his retirement from professional football on ESPN’s “NFL Live” on Friday.

Murray is 30 years old, and has played seven seasons in the NFL for three different teams. He was drafted out of Oklahoma in 2011 by the Dallas Cowboys, which is where he spent the bulk of his career. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015, and suited up for the Tennessee Titans in 2016 and 2017. He was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2014, and his career stats show just how good he was.

Murray was released by the Tennessee Titans at the end of the 2017 season, and appeared to struggle to find a new team. However, he told ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently that he had been talking to several teams and wanted to sign before the start of training camp. Instead, Murray decided to opt for retirement.

It wasn’t entirely out of the blue, though. Murray posted an Instagram story on Thursday that showed him standing in front of an ESPN sign captioned by the words “Stay Tuned.” Does that mean Murray will be taking a job with ESPN? We’ll just have to wait and see. The world is his oyster at this point, so anything is possible.
