DeMar DeRozan's top five dunks of the year

When DeMar DeRozan went coast-to-coast last night in Detroit with less than 10 seconds on the clock, and threw down the hammer to take the lead (and eventually force overtime), he reminded Raptors fans just how freakishly athletic he really is.

This year, DeRozan earned his fourth All-Star nod as he continues to prove that he’s a franchise player and has helped put Toronto on the map. He’s currently averaging about 24 points, four rebounds and five assists per game for Toronto, who is sitting pretty in the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

And while last night’s dunk is still fresh in fans’ minds, here are DeRozan’s top five jams so far this season.

It goes without saying that the last-second dunk against the Pistons on March 7 makes the top of the list.

Next up, the reverse alley-oop against the Knicks on Nov. 22 in the Gardens (talk about on-court chemistry between DeMar and Kyle!).

Despite losing the game 108-100, DeRozan added 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, including this crazy highlight midway through the first quarter.

A week later, Kyle and DeMar were at it again.

As Lowry struggled to get by his defender, he drew in the help defence and dished to DeMar cutting through the lane. And just two steps from the top of the key, DeRozan lifted off, cocked it back and threw it down.

That’ll be a dunk to rewatch for years to come — just ask the Raptors Superfan who had a front-row seat and couldn’t contain his excitement.

When the Cleveland Cavaliers came to town in January, DeRozan and the rest of the Raptors were out to prove a point.

That point: the Raptors the best team in the Eastern Conference.

The explanation point: DeRozan’s first quarter one-handed jam, which helped the Raps win the match-up 133-99 in front of a packed ACC crowd.

This last dunk might not be DeMar’s best, but the quick move down the baseline and the chin-up afterwards makes it a highlight for the Raptors’ star.

In a tight game against Washington on March 2, DeRozan played 34 minutes and scored 23 points.

And if you pause the video at just the right time, you can see four white jerseys in awe of his athleticism (just like most of us watching on TV).

The Raps still have 18 more regular season games this year before playoffs — after they became the first team in the league to officially clinch a postseason berth with last night’s win — and DeRozan is bound to have another five highlight reel dunks.

While we wait to see what DeRozan has in store for us next, we’ll just leave you with this.
