‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’: 20th Century Studios lands Bruce Springsteen movie starring Jeremy Allen White

From “The Bear” to the Boss.

On Monday, Disney and 20th Century Studios announced it had secured the rights to “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” the upcoming film about Bruce Springsteen and the making of his acclaimed album “Nebraska” that has “The Bear” Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White attached to star. Based on the book of the same name by Warren Zanes, “Deliver Me from Nowhere” will be directed and written by Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart,” “Out of the Furnace”).

“It is a once-in-a-lifetime honor to be collaborating with Bruce Springsteen, an inspiring and incomparable artist who represents so much to so many,” said David Greenbaum, president, Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, in a statement. “The deep authenticity of his story is in great hands with my friend Scott Cooper whom I am thrilled to be collaborating with once again.”

“Warren Zanes’ ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’ is one of the best books ever written about Bruce Springsteen and his music,” said Springsteen’s longtime manager Jon Landau. “Bruce and I are thrilled that Scott Cooper has chosen to write and direct the film based on that book – we think he’s the perfect filmmaker for the job. Scott, with Producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson at The Gotham Group, and Scott Stuber are bringing together a superb team to ensure that this project has the vision and soul that have been the hallmark of Bruce’s 55-year career. We’re thrilled to have the wholehearted commitment and support of the entire team at 20th and Disney.” 

The existence of this project was revealed late last month and, at the time, it was suggested A24 had been in the driver’s seat for the rights. But according to Deadline, Greenbaum – a passionate Springsteen fan and newly installed at the top of the Disney ship after his successful run leading Searchlight Picture – swooped in over the weekend to secure the film. “Deliver Me from Nowhere” is set to shoot this fall.

White won his first Emmy Award in January for “The Bear” Season 1 and he’s expected to win again for the show’s second season when the Emmys are held in September. “The Bear” returns with its third season in June. An unofficially announced fourth season of the show is currently in production (the fourth season episodes began filming just after Season 3 was completed). It’s expected that production on the fourth season will conclude in June.
