Deion Sanders’ Son Shilo Heads to E.R. After Colorado’s Loss to Oregon: ‘I Landed on My Kidney’

The Buffaloes defensive back went to the hospital due to an undisclosed injury that incurred during his team's loss at Autzen Stadium

Shilo Sanders was taken to the hospital after suffering an undisclosed injury in Saturday's Colorado Buffaloes' loss to the Oregon Ducks.

The defensive back, who is also the middle son of head coach Deion Sanders, revealed he had to pay a visit to the emergency room due to an undisclosed injury incurred during the game on Sept. 23 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.

While disembarking from the team's plane, Shilo, 23, told Well Off Media, "I can't say I didn't play hard, I'm peeing blood right now."

Shilo, who recorded seven tackles — six of which were solo, took a brutal blow to the kidney during a tackle.

When asked by the cameraman if he was okay, Shilo responded, "Nah, I made a tackle and I landed, like, on my kidney or something," adding that he's "got to go to the E.R. and get checked."

“He’s doing better," Deion told reporters of his son on Tuesday, per On3.

“We went to the hospital right after we landed," the former NFL star, 56, said. "He’s doing much better. We’re praying that he heals and he’s playing this weekend. He’s a valuable part of our secondary and our team defensively."

Shilo is the second player from Colorado to be hospitalized with a field injury in recent weeks.

During Colorado State University’s game against the University of Colorado on Sept. 16, wide receiver Travis Hunter had to be taken to hospital when a rival player lowered his left shoulder and drove it into Hunter’s chest after a pass to him already flew over his head and hit the ground.

Hunter struggled to get up and was soon taken off the field with the help of medical staff.

Deion debuted as the team's head coach on Sept. 2, which also marked Shilo's start on the team. The two-time Super Bowl champion previously coached at Jackson State University in Mississippi, while Shedeur Sanders, 21, also transferred to Colorado from that college to play as quarterback.

After the Buffaloes won their first game of the season against Texas Christian University on Sept. 2, images from the away game at Amon G. Carter Stadium, shared by SportsCenter, showed Deion and Shilo sharing a heartwarming hug and an apparent prayer ahead of the big game.

Deion recently told PEOPLE it was his "dream" of jogging out on the football field with his team. He previously had his left big toe and second toe amputated in 2021 and currently wears a protective boot on his left foot following a blood clot procedure in June. Therefore, he explained, a "nice, little comfortable jog" would suffice.
