Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes walked into a tough matchup against the USC Trojans while still reeling from a 42-6 loss to the Oregon Ducks the week prior. While they put up a better fight this past weekend, they took yet another loss, and Coach Prime believes they have some soul-searching to do.

“I’m really proud,” he said after watching the Buffs overcome a 27-point first-half deficit and outscore the No.6 ranked Trojans 27-14 in the second half. They ultimately lost the matchup 48-41, but kept it a lot closer than people projected, especially after what took place against the Ducks last Saturday (Sept. 23).

“What’s our identity?” the NFL legend asked following the game. “I don’t know who we are. I don’t know what we gonna do. From practice to practice, I do, but we’ve got to translate that into the games. So we’re still searching for our true identity.”

The Colorado Buffaloes, led by head coach Deion Sanders, have been a major topic of discussion throughout this college football season. They opened the year defeating the TCU Horned Frogs, who were last year’s runner-up in the National Championship game. They followed that up by decisively defeating the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their home opener by over 20 points and then going for three straight victories with a tight matchup against the Colorado State Rams.

Boulder, Colo. became the place to be with all of the visibility Coach Prime brought to the team. Celebrities like the former NFL player and media personality Pat McAfee, highly acclaimed actor and WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Offset, Kawhi Leonard, and Lil Wayne all began attending games as the team picked up more steam.

Despite the back-to-back losses, Coach Prime has already assisted the Buffs in exceeding expectations. In the 2022 regular season, they won just one game. This season, they’ve won three and went undefeated in non-conference play. Their toughest opponents, USC and Oregon, are in their rear view so time will tell how the Buffaloes bounce back and finish off this season. A bowl game berth is still within reach.
