Dee Snider rose to fame in the 1980s with his heavy metal band Twisted Sister, known for performing in makeup and bold, colorful costumes. Lesser known is the fact that his wife of over 40 years, Suzette Snider, was the mastermind behind the band’s costume design and makeup.

“...[Suzette] started making our costumes. At first they were very feminine, but she just said, ‘You're not pretty.’ So she started changing it into sort-of tattered, colourful rags, taking it further and further away from the feminine look," Dee told KERRANG! in 2021.

But that wasn't her only contribution to Twisted Sister. She also "came up with the band's logo," Dee told The Sydney Morning Herald in 2019.

Outside of the band, Suzette and Dee Snider have built a life together in their hometown of Long Island, raising four children, all of whom are now grown. They even showcased their family life on reality TV in their own show, Growing Up Twisted, which premiered in 2010.

Now, they couple have welcomed grandchildren and settled down in Los Angeles, with all of their kids out of the house, but Dee credits his wife and family for keeping him grounded.

"My family, and specifically Suzette [Dee’s wife], who’s been with me 40 years now, has been my oasis and my anchor: and I don’t mean in the sense that she pulls me down, I mean in the sense that she keeps me from completely floating away. She’s shown the consistency and stability to remain with me through it all," Dee told Louder in 2016.

So who is Dee Snider's wife? Here's everything to know about Suzette Snider and her relationship with the Twisted Sister musician.

Suzette was a teenager when she used a fake ID to get into a Twisted Sister show without knowing who the band was. Dee told his story of meeting her to the The Sydney Morning Herald.

“I met my wife, Suzette, when she was 15 and I was 21. She turned up to our show on her cousin's ID and thought she was seeing a girl band. I saw her and flipped. She was this hot Italian beauty. I told her I'd be famous one day. We've been together ever since,” Dee said.

Meanwhile, in an Instagram post on April 26, 2018, Suzette said that she was glad to have met Dee when she did.

“42 years ago I met the man of my dreams in a bar. Who knew he would turn out to be my life. I’m so grateful for this man and all that he is and what he has brought to my Life. I love you Dee Forever and Forever,” she wrote alongside kissy-face emojis.

She also shared a photo on Instagram in 2018 of herself at age fifteen, noting that it was the year she had met Dee.

Shane Royal Snider, the couple’s second child, was born on February 29, 1988. Shane spent time doing stand-up and improv, and he currently works in visual arts. Shane sang his mom’s praises on the Between Awesome and Disaster podcast in 2023, saying: “I think it’d be safe to say that she is one of the masterminds behind Twisted Sister.”

Cody Blue Snider was born on December 7, 1989. He is a director and screenwriter, and currently hosts an investigative talk show podcast called “The Awakened Underground,” which his mom and sister have guested on.

Dee and Suzette’s only daughter and youngest child, Cheyenne Jean Snider, was born on October 31, 1996. Following in her mom’s footsteps, Cheyenne is a fashion designer with her own line, Havoc.

"My daughter is in fashion," Dee told PEOPLE in a 2023 interview.

She and Dee are grandparents

Suzette and Dee’s eldest son, Jesse, is the father to four children with his wife Patty, and was the first of Suzette and Dee's kids to make them grandparents.

Jesse and his wife Patty Snider's children are daughter Logan Lane, twin sons Cassidy West and Grayson Wayne and daughter Parker Pryde.

Parker, the youngest, was born in Jesse’s car on LA’s 405 freeway in August 2016, while he and his wife were on the way to the hospital. "We just had the baby in the car on the way to the hospital," Jesse Snider said in a video he posted on Instagram shortly after the birth, according to CBS News.

"We waited a little too long to leave, I think. But the baby's healthy and already breast-feeding, and we love her,” he continued.

Dee also tweeted about the momentous occasion “My 4th grandchild, a girl was just born...in the car on the way to the hospital! Welcome to the world Parker Snider! Way to get attention!” he wrote.

In June 2023, Shane made Dee and Suzette grandparents again when announced that he had become a father in an Instagram post.

"It's been a long few days. But he's happy and I'm now a dad," he wrote alongside an image of his son, adding, "World, meet Ronan. My big ass baby boy."

Suzette is a costume designer and hair and makeup artist with a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, according to the New York Post.

She was also in charge of husband Dee’s costumes and makeup for his performances in Twisted Sister, and famously designed the band's logo.

In a 2019 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Dee noted his wife's role in coming up with the Twisted Sister logo design, describing her as, "a costume designer who came up with the band's logo, did our make-up and made my costumes."

She designed their Long Island home

Both Dee and Suzette are from Long Island, N.Y. Dee was raised in the Baldwin and Freeport areas. He met Suzette in a Long Island night club where he was performing.

The Sniders’ reality TV show Growing Up Twisted showcased their life on Long Island, where they lived in a 6-bedroom, 4-bathroom house in East Setauket. The family showed off the house in an episode of MTV Cribs.

Dee previously credited Suzette with handling the renovations and design for their home.

“Her family’s in construction. She swings a hammer, she uses a saw and she’s a mean-ass spackler,” Snider said in an interview with the New York Post.

He added that when the kitchen was built, Suzette decided she didn’t like the color of the cabinets but was told she’d have to wait until she moved in to change them, which she didn’t like.

“That weekend, my wife breaks in…with her sander and her stain, and she redoes the cabinets. [The builders] come in on Monday, and they’re beside themselves. She says, ‘I broke into my own house and I stained my own cabinets. What are you gonna do? Arrest me?’ ” Dee told the outlet.

However, Dee was ultimately proud of his wife’s design skills.

“I can’t give Suzette enough credit. She’s really responsible for creating something beautiful, and people should see it,” he said.

Today, Dee and Suzette live in Los Angeles as well as spending time in their house in Belize, but they still feel connected to Long Island, and have fundraised for Long Island-based charities, including Melissa’s Wish.

In 2021, Dee returned to his roots of performing around Long Island with a one-night-only performance at Patchogue’s Stereo Garden.

Dee and Suzette had their own reality show with their family on A&E in 2010, called Growing Up Twisted.

Dee took part in plenty of reality TV in the 2000s, so much so that he told PEOPLE that his friends urged him to stop.

“Well, I had already been told I was doing too much for reality TV. At a certain point, they had a roast for me, and Zakk Wylde from Ozzy Osbourne's band said, ‘Dee, this isn't a roast, it's an intervention. You got to stop doing all this reality TV,’” Dee told PEOPLE in an April 2023 interview where he also discussed appearing on The Masked Singer, where he performed as Doll.

Before his “intervention,” Dee and Suzette appeared on the show Celebrity Wife Swap, where Dee and Flavor Flav swapped partners. The couple also made an appearance on Celebrity Family Feud with their kids. During their episode, they played against Terry Bradshaw’s family and won $25,000 for the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
