Deborra-Lee Furness Breaks Her Silence After Surprising Hugh Jackman Split

Last September, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness rocked fans with the announcement that they were splitting up after 27 years of marriage. The former duo was considered to have one of Hollywood’s most enduring marriages, so this was a shocking moment for everyone.

Since then, Jackman and Furness have kept a relatively low profile and haven’t offered any statements beyond their divorce press release — until now. The 68-year-old actress broke her silence at the red-carpet premiere of her new movie, Force of Nature: The Dry 2, on Jan. 23. She revealed the mixed emotions she was feeling without Jackman by her side.

“It is kind of exciting,” she shared to the Daily Telegraph. “You know what, change, transition, evolution is a little frightening and we are all a bit scared of it but I think it is probably our greatest gift,” Furness noted that she threw herself into her work after the details of her marriage were revealed. “There were so many appealing factors for me, a great script by Jane Harper and directed by Robert Connolly,” she explained. “I love Eric [Bana] and coming home to Australia to shoot in the wilds.”

Furness was interviewed without her wedding ring which signaled a new chapter in her life. She and Jackman gave a unified statement to People last fall once their breakup was official. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the statement read. “Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.”

It seems that the former couple has followed through with their solid friendship because Furness was happily there to celebrate Jackman’s 55th birthday last October, per Page Six. So, while they aren’t in each other’s lives romantically, their solid foundation is holding strong in a very platonic way.
