Debate Rages Online About Body Image After Adele's Shares Christmas Party Photos

Adele hasn't shared many posts on Instagram since filing for divorce from her husband Simon Konecki in September, but on Monday she shared a couple snaps from a recent holiday party she attended.

In one of the black and white images, she is posing with the Grinch in a black silk dress. In the other, she is standing next to Santa.

"We both tried to ruin Christmas but then both our hearts grew! Thank you for coming to my party and making us feel like kids Grinch. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone," Adele captioned the post.

The photos prompted many outlets to talk about how great Adele looks, and that it appears she's lost weight. This didn't sit well with some fans.

"PSA: Adele isn't 'flaunting her weight loss', she's just going to a party, k thanks," one person wrote.

"Chil’ you would have thought Adele was a gremlin the way the media acts now that she’s loss weight, she’s BEEN beautiful, she’s BEEN THAT B—! I’m so tired of America’s obsession with being skinny, it’s annoying af!" another commented.

"Celebrating Adele's weight loss is a garbage thing to do for a million reasons. Here are two: 1. It tells your fat friends you think their bodies are a problem to be solved. 2. The weight loss could be the result of physical or mental health struggles. Weird to cheer about!" a third replied.

"'Adele looks SO GOOD', girl Adele has ALWAYS looked stunnin’, you just equate thinness with beauty and your comments show how perceive fat people." another defender added.

Actress Jameela Jamil got in on it, too. "Adele was beautiful before. Is beautiful now. Will be beautiful WHATEVERTHEF— weight she will be in the future," she wrote. "The weight of a global icon trending is a sign there is still work to do in how we value women in 2020. Being thinner doesn’t add to her value."

Colton Haynes had perhaps the highest compliment. "I’m making these my new phone background," he replied.
