Netflix turned German author Romy Hausmann’s bestselling book of the same name into a six-episode limited series. While the narrative brought to the screen captures the novel’s tone very authentically, it’s entirely fictional. The book did not draw any characters or events out from real life.
The story focuses on Lena, a young woman who has been living in captivity in a remote cabin for several years. The twisted crime thriller reveals the horrifying way in which Lena was kidnapped and the conditions she was put under.
All this time, she and her kids, Hannah and Jonathan, had been eating their meals and using the toilet at precise times, following the commands of a mystery man. But when she manages to escape and ends up in the hospital, her parents arrive to confirm that she actually went missing 13 years ago.
The cast and synopsis of Dear Child
Originally titled “Liebes Kind,” Dear Child began streaming on Netflix on September 7, 2023. It stars Kim Riedle as the lead. Along with her, we see Naila Schuberth as Hannah, Hans Löw as Gerd Bühling, Sammy Schrein as Jonathan, Nagmeh Alaei, and Justus von Dohnányi.
