Dealers lining up for Somerset's annual antique show

Antique dealers from multiple states will converge on Somerset on Aug. 13, for the 51st annual Somerset Antique & Vintage Fair. It is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the streets of historic uptown Somerset.

The fair features a little something for everyone, from furniture, sports memorabilia, jewelry and quilts to glassware, books, paintings, toys, coins and more. Food and drink vendors will also be set up throughout the area.

"The Annual Antiques and Vintage Fair draws upwards to 5,000 visitors to the streets of Somerset for this yearly event," said Ron Aldom, executive director at Somerset County Chamber of Commerce, in an email. "Many travel from far outside the local area, including Pittsburgh, Cumberland and the Ohio area. The dealers are always happy with the show and many have quoted that this is their best show for sales and many of them do a lot of shows over the year."

The Antique & Vintage Fair is sponsored by the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce and Somerset Trust Co. There is free admission and free parking is available in the Somerset County parking garage along East Catherine Street.

As in past years, the event will also feature an antique and classic car show from noon to 2 p.m. in the Somerset Trust Co. parking lot on West Main Street.

The event will be held rain or shine and those attending are asked to leave their pets at home.

Aldom has been involved with the antique fair from the day he got here 18 years ago."I know it has had a very successful history in its over 50 years," Aldom said. "The actual origin or idea goes back 50 years and it is safe to say that multiple business people explored ways to attract visitors to Somerset and came up with this annual event that is still a great event a half a century later.

"I also like that many of our visitors explore other businesses, attractions and destinations in the county while they’re here and some even make it a weekend, adding hotel revenue to the county. The location surrounding the courthouse makes it an idyllic setting too."

Dealer spaces are still available. Contact the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce at 814-445-6431 or info@somersetcountychamber.com for details. For more information on the antique and classic car show, contact Somerset Trust Co. at 814-443-9200.
