The Deadpool franchise isn't so dead after all. After months of radio silence on the development front, Bob's Burgers writers Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux have been tapped to write the script for the next sequel, starring Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth.

Deadline was the first to report the news, while the sisters confirmed over Twitter. "A dream," Wendy wrote to accompany a post by the film's official handle with a drawing of Bob Belcher with two katanas strapped to his back.

A rep for Disney, which acquired rights to Deadpool and the X-Men franchise at large with the purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019, did not comment. A rep for Reynolds did not respond to EW's request for comment.

Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018) both featured rated-R antics from Reynolds & co., which isn't the typical fair for the family-friendly Disney. The films have been the more lucrative moneymakers for Fox's X-Men franchise, but in light of the Disney acquisition, the fate of more sequels was in doubt.

As of January, when Disney held a studio summit to preview upcoming titles, Deadpool 3 was not mentioned. Instead, plans to incorporate Marvel characters once owned by Fox into the existing Avengers cinematic universe were underway. For one, Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors was cast in Ant-Man 3 in a role that is likely Kang the Conquerer. The hiring of the Molyneux sisters is the biggest development yet for Deadpool 3.

Lizzie and Wendy are both writers and executive producers on Fox's Bob's Burgers, and they are the creators and showrunners on the upcoming animated comedy The Great North.

David Leitch directed Deadpool 2, which introduced Josh Brolin as the time-traveling Cable. Leitch is currently booked up with Bullet Train and The Division (inspired by the videogame) and Undying Love (inspired by the graphic novel).
