If the 20-second first look at Saturday’s Will Ferrell-Kristen Wiig Lifetime movie, A Deadly Adoption, wasn’t enough for you, it’s your lucky day: Yahoo TV has the exclusive debut of the extended trailer above.
Ferrell plays Robert Benson (“America’s new financial guru,” according to the cover of U.S. Finance Monthly), and he and his wife (Wiig) are looking to add to their family. Enter 90210’s Jessica Lowndes as a birth mother whose affinity for pretty, spaghetti-strapped flowered dresses is a ruse. Before long, she turns their plans for a fairytale adoption into a cross between The Crush and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
A Deadly Adoption is a parody of the movies Lifetime is famous for — but the twist is, Ferrell and Wiig play it totally straight. Made in secret, the film was scripted by Andrew Steele, a former Saturday Night Live writer who penned Ferrell’s similarly-deadpan big-screen send-up of telenovelas, 2012’s Casa de Mi Padre. It’s directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, whose credits include the Lifetime movies Escape From Polygamy and Love at the Christmas Table.
A Deadly Adoption premieres June 20 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
