‘Dead Poets Society’ Inspires Real-Life ‘Goldberg’ to Become a Doctor

Wednesday’s episode of The Goldbergs started off with Adam’s mom, Beverly, a substitute teacher, watching Dead Poets Society and being inspired to inspire her students. So when she got to class the next day, Beverly had all of the kids, including her son Barry, stand up on her desk. The plan fell short when one of the students fell through the desk.

While Barry was initially embarrassed by his mother’s antics, in the end, Beverly’s Robin Williams impression inspired her son to be a better student. And real-life Barry Goldberg made his mom’s dreams come true by becoming a real-life doctor. Every show ends with actual footage from the real Goldberg family’s home movies, and this episode showed Barry graduating and on his way to medical school.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC. Watch clips and full episodes of The Goldbergs for free on Yahoo View.
