Superman is probably the most famous superhero ever created. For more than 70 years, an elite club of inspiring actors have provided a continuous stream of movies and TV shows to carry on the man of steel's messages of hope and belief.

Now, as DC Studios begins to launch its latest iteration of the DC Comics cinematic universe, a new actor and actress have been cast to play the last son of Krypton and his partner in journalism and life, Lois Lane. Here are more details on who has been chosen and what is known so far about the next Superman movie:

Who is playing Superman?

The next to don the iconic red cape is David Corenswet. He's a 29-year-old actor from Philadelphia whose most popular movie so far is last year's twisted horror "Pearl" in which he played the projectionist. Some other notable performances include his role as River Barkley in Netflix's TV series "The Politician" and HBO's mini-series "We Own This City" in which he played Dougan McDougall.

Though these projects were well received, a Superman movie would easily be Corenswet's biggest opportunity to date. This would also mark a major entry into the action-movie scene, though he already has the build for it. Standing at 6-foot-4, Corenswet is one of the tallest to ever play Superman, standing toe-to-toe with the late Christopher Reeve who starred in 1978's blockbuster "Superman: The Movie."

He has also been slated for 2024's "Twisters," a kind of sequel to 1996's "Twister" starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.

Who is playing Lois Lane?

But no Superman story is complete without Lois Lane, and filling those legendary shoes is Rachel Brosnahan. The 33-year-old Milwaukee actress has already gained a ton of love as Miriam 'Midge' Maisel in Amazon's hit series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." The performance has earned her multiple wins and nominations from the Emmys, the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes.

Two of her more popular film roles include Wendy in 2019's animated family feature "Spies in Disguise" and Emily Donovan in "The Courier" starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Brosnahan is also the niece of the late fashion designer Kate Spade.

What is known about the next Superman movie?

DC Studios' creative head James Gunn first announced the new Superman movie in February as part of a detailed layout for the first phase of their new expanded universe. Comic book fans know Gunn from his work as the writer and director of 2021's "The Suicide Squad" and the entire "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy. Now, he is writing and directing "Superman: Legacy."

Not much is known about the story so far except that it will focus on Superman's earlier years as he grapples with his human and alien backgrounds. However, it is not an origin film. It is also supposed to focus in on Superman as a symbol of hope, truth and justice. As for who will play his infamous enemy Lex Luthor, multiple names have circulated in the media, but there are no confirmations. As opposed to some previous iterations, Gunn has said he is not a fan of the more campy portrayals and prefers a Luthor that is incredibly threatening and always bald.

The movie is set to release on July 11, 2025.
