‘DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow’ Ratings Return Down, Chargers’ Win Scores For CBS

In what was a very long and sometimes thrilling game, Thursday saw the Los Angeles Dodgers win the National League Division Series 4-3 over the Washington Nationals and advance one step closer to a possible MLB World Series spot. Last night also saw a couple of debuts on the CW and a resurrection of sorts for Thursday Night Football (3.0/11) on CBS after the fall of last week.

While adjustments are expected, in early numbers the San Diego Chargers’ 21-13 crushing of the Denver Broncos is up 20% among adults 18-49 over the limp October 6 results the House of Moonves drew. On a night when Hurricane Matthew was heading towards Florida and the Southeast states, that demo number of that 8:27 – 11:35 PM game last week went up to a 4.1/15 in the final numbers. So, with viewership currently sitting at 10.08 million, we could see a similar uptick today – especially as the teams on the field were from western states like last week. As it is, CBS easily won the night with a 2.9/11 rating and 9.82 million viewers.

It was not a winning return for DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow (0.6/2) last night on the CW. The Season 2 debut of the time traveling superhero team-up series was down a hard 50% in the 18-49 demo from its solid January 21 Season 1 opener. Viewershipwise, LoT fell 43% from its beginning of the year premiere to 1.84 million last night – putting a lot more pressure than usual for the Live+3 numbers to show some significant bounce. Things were a bit kinder to lead-out Supernatural (0.8/3) for its Season 12 start. Not only did the fantasy horror series rise 33% over its lead-in but only went down a tenth from its last opener of October 7 last year – all of which resulted in the best rating the CW has had in the slot since Reign debuted on October 17, 2013.

Grey’s Anatomy (2.1/8) was the top scripted show of the night as it commonly is but declined a tenth from last week as did that other Shonda Rhimes series of the night 10 PM’s How To Get Away With Murder (1.1/4). In between the two, ABC’s newbie Notorious (0.9/3) stayed staid with last week’s soft result.

Maybe it was that live baseball on Fox Sports, but Fox’s baseball drama Pitch (0.8/3) struck out last night to match lead-in Rosewood (0.8/3) as the lowest rated show on the Big 4 and fall 20% from last week – which had been steady with the previous week. Lead-in Rosewood was down a tenth from its October 7 airing and last among the broadcast nets in its slot again.

Over on NBC, the best of the night was Chicago Med (1.3/4), which was even with last week’s show. Otherwise, it was a series of declines of a tenth or two tenths from the early number of October 7. Superstore (1.2/5) and The Blacklist (1.1/4) were down a tenth each from last week, but the America Ferrera starring comedy was adjusted up to a 1.4/5 in later numbers. Right up against the start of TNF on CBS, The Good Place (1.2/5) was not in a great place as the Kristen Bell and Ted Danson comedy took a 14% drop among the 18-49s from last week – when it did not face the NFL.

And speaking of facing live ports, expect tonight’s primetime line-up to feel the effects of the Toronto Blue Jays vs. Cleveland Indians MLB match-up as the teams open Game 1 of the American League Championship series – take me out to the ball game.
