‘Days Of Wine And Roses’ Sets Closing Notice, The Latest Broadway Production To Bow Out Before Spring Crush

Days of Wine and Roses, the critically acclaimed musical adaptation of the 1962 film, will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, March 31, just about two months after its January 28 opening night.

The production becomes the third in recent weeks to announce that it would vacate the Broadway boards just as the industry gears up for one of the busiest springs in memory. Spamalot, which opened last November, announced yesterday that it would close Sunday, April 7, while A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical will play its final performance on Sunday, June 30; the production opened December 4, 2022.

All three of the soon-to-close shows have been struggling at the box office in recent weeks. Last week, Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, grossed just $364,686, filling only 55% of seats at Broadway’s Studio 54.

The musical, which began previews on Broadway January 6 and opened January 28, had played an 84-performance sold-out run at the Atlantic Theater Company Off Broadway prior to the move to Broadway. When it closes on March 31, it will have played 25 previews and 73 regular performances on Broadway.

Days of Wine and Roses may be ending its engagement at Studio 54, but it will have a long life on our cast album, in future productions and in the hearts and minds of the people lucky enough to have experienced it on Broadway and Off Broadway this summer at the Atlantic Theater Company. What is exciting is that Broadway theatregoers will still have 31 more chances to see Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James in this glorious production.”

In addition to McCollum, Roses is produced by Mark Cortale, and Sing Out, Louise! Productions. Michael Greif is the director.

In addition to Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, the cast includes Byron Jennings, Tabitha Lawing, David Jennings, Sharon Catherine Brown, Tony Carlin, Bill English, Olivia Hernandez, David Manis, Steven Booth, Nicole Ferguson, Addie Manthey and Kelcey Watson.
