On the Tuesday, April 30 episode of Days of Our Lives, Chad started poking around about Paulina’s irresponsible actions while highly irradiated. Meanwhile, Julie got the all-clear from Kayla, but something might be wrong with Chanel.

Paulina Radiated Positivity

A happy Paulina (Jackée Harry) told Abe (James Reynolds) on the phone that there was no trace of radiation left in her system. Shortly thereafter, Chad (Billy Flynn) arrived at her office and told her that someone claimed she abused her power and put the public at risk during her adventure to Smith Island.

She reassured him that everything had been misconstrued. Chad lit into Paulina about the danger she could have put people in by leaving her hospital isolation while still highly radioactive. Paulina scoffed at the idea, blaming E.J. (Daniel Feuerriegel) for putting him up to it and insisting she did everything safely. She also cited the fact that Chanel (Raven Bowens), Johnny (Carson Boatman), and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) were all fine. (Learn more about Paulina’s cancer journey.)

Chad noted that he spoke with the construction worker whose snow plow she commandeered, and when he asked how she even knew how to drive one, she revealed that she used to own a construction company. The more Chad probed, the more you could see his genuine concern growing. Their conversation got heated as Chad voiced his concern that Paulina could have hurt herself and others, and she fired back, saying that he would have done the same thing for his own kids.

Paulina can become very single-minded about things, and when she ran off to rescue Chanel, she didn’t consider the consequences. But as Chad’s worry grew, so did hers regarding the consequences of her actions.

Chanel Started to Have a Meltdown

Paulina met up with Johnny and Chanel at the town square, and she told them about The Spectator looking into her escape from the hospital. She blamed the inquiry on E.J., and asked if he could put in a good word for her to his dad. He said he would, and she reiterated how she tried to be as responsible as possible with the radiation. Yet, Chad had told her that the rescue workers wore hazmat suits and put her in one as well, so clearly, there was a danger.

Although Julie had gotten word from Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) that she was radiation-free, Chanel started to feel queasy and rushed off to take care of business. When she returned, Johnny reminded her that Kayla told them to alert her if they experienced any fatigue or nausea. He also pointed out that Chanel had been lethargic the past day or so. After Chanel’s protests, he and Paulina insisted they take her to the hospital.

The effect of Chanel’s exposure to the radiation isn’t known yet, but short of gaining superpowers, she’s more likely to get cancer or something even worse. At the very least, why didn’t Paulina simply steal a hazmat suit from the hospital if she was going to go traipsing around to find Chanel? If she’d done that, while most of her friends haven’t condoned her actions, she would have been hailed as a hero for keeping everyone else’s safety a priority. But she didn’t, so we’ll have to wait and see the further fallout from her isotopic adventure. (Find out how Paulina got into this mess in the first place.)

Pop Culture Reference of the Day

In one scene, Everett (Blake Berris) told Marlena (Deidre Hall) that he lied to Stephanie (Abigail Klein) about quitting his hypnosis therapy because he didn’t want people to think she was a “quack.” People don’t say it much these days, but if someone thinks a doctor isn’t very good, they call him a quack, which comes from the term “quacksalver.” This was a person who wasn’t skilled enough to become a doctor but would sell remedies, usually on a street corner or at a fair. These people were not licensed physicians, and their hollering to attract customers was likened to the quacking of a duck.
