Dax Shepard Tells Goldie Hawn About His 'Journey' Dating Her Daughter Kate Hudson

Goldie Hawn joked to Dax Shepard on his podcast, "Oh, I don't wanna hear that!"

Goldie Hawn is having a chat with daughter Kate Hudson's ex-boyfriend, Dax Shepard.

The Oscar winner, 78, was a guest on Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast this week, and at one point Shepard, 49, spoke about his "journey" dating Hudson, 44.

Co-host Monica Padman said, "The irony of us saying your kids are their own people, which they are, but Kate is so similar to you."

"Yeah, if there's any one of your children it would be hardest for you to not think is yours, it's her," joked Shepard. "And I have to tell you the journey I took dating Kate." Hawn said with a laugh, "Oh, I don't wanna hear that!"

"Well, I took the journey of dating Kate, and then I saw Shampoo," Shepard said of Hawn's 1975 film. "And I was like, 'Oh my God — I was dating Goldie!' That is f---ing uncanny. You in Shampoo, that my be the sparkliest I've ever seen someone in a movie. Nobody could watch Shampoo and not be tragically in love with you."

"That's amazing to hear," said Hawn.

Shepard added of Hudson's Oscar-nominated turn in 2000's Almost Famous, "I'm like, 'Oh here she is again! She time-traveled.' It's freaky."

The actor recalled staying with Hudson and her family in Canada, where he "met the real" Hawn. "I went, 'Holy smokes, I hope I don't get confused."

"That is so funny," said Hawn, who added that there's "no doubt about it" that she and Hudson are very alike. "That is DNA. That is something you can't help."

Today, Shepard is married to Kristen Bell, with whom he shares two daughters. Hudson, a mother of three, is engaged to fiancé Danny Fujikawa.

Shepard and Hudson dated for several months in 2007. She was a guest on his podcast in 2019, when they looked back fondly on their relationship. She said at the time that it was a "very memorable, very wonderful, fun experience."

Though Hudson said they considered themselves to be "super compatible," they broke up because they "were in different places in our lives."
