Dax Harwood hopes CM Punk and The Elite can put their differences aside and work things out for the betterment of professional wrestling.

Speaking on his podcast, FTR with Dax Harwood, Dax spoke about his relationship with CM Punk as well as some of the events that led up to the now infamous brawl after AEW All Out in September. Harwood spoke about Hangman Page’s promo on Punk and how Punk felt a certain way about it, noting that he personally had no clue anything went wrong and originally praised it. Harwood said he doesn’t know if Page would normally shoot on someone like that, noting that they don’t know each other very well but doesn’t believe that is in Page’s character.

“I didn’t have that notion of him. He’s a family man, he loves his wife, he’s got a newborn kid or maybe one on the way or something. But he’s always pleasant, always polite to me. We always talk, and we get along. Even after the disagreements we’ve had with the Young Bucks, he and I have always talked and got along great.”

In regards to Punk’s demeanor and rumors that he was bitter about the wrestling business, Dax Harwood said Punk was still pretty happy overall.

“Punk was still so joyous, he was happy to be in the wrestling business. To be honest, he told me, when they were gonna put the belt on him, he didn’t want the belt. He said, ‘I just wanna have fun.’ But he understood that Tony putting the belt on him again would put AEW in a better light. So he took it, begrudgingly, a little bit, but he took the belt. But at the time, man, he was taking me, Cash, Max, Wardlow, Hobbs I’m missing so many other guys, he was taking us out to eat, taking us out to dinner, always paying for it, inviting my wife to come along, she came along, my daughter. He would always take us to the nice restaurants, and he was paying for it. Not just me but to all the people. He bought all the girls in the locker room Starbucks gift cards and had one of the girls hand them out anonymously and didn’t say who they were from, but it was from him just because he loved the atmosphere, and he loved being there. He also loved the work the girls were putting in. He thought they were busting their ass to try to get the attention that WWE’s women’s division was getting.”

Dax Harwood then went into detail about his own experience learning about the All Out press conference, sharing that Punk had called him after everything went down with The Elite.

“All the boys in the male locker room were drinking and having a good time, and we were hugging. I have a picture of me and Jay Lethal laying on the ground together just laughing our ass off because we were having so much fun. I had my wife and my daughter there with me. Cash has his girlfriend with him. It was just such a great time. So of course, as soon as our match was over, I shower up, and we had a couple of drinks with the guys real quick. Grabbed my girls and we headed back to the hotel. I was laying in the bed, and I got a text from one of the wrestlers that said, ‘Is this s—- true?’ I had no idea what he was talking about. Then right after that, I got a call from my buddy CM Punk, and he told me what happened. I was like, ‘You’re lying to me, dude. There’s no way that happened.’ He was covered in blood from the match. He FaceTimed me, I was laying in bed with my wife, and my daughter was in the pullout sofa bed. It was that night. He said, ‘Hey, I just wanna let you know, you’re gonna hear some things, but I wanted you to hear it from me. This is what happened.’ I was like, ‘Dude, are you okay? Do you need me? I’ll come right now to help you out, get you cleaned up or whatever.’ He said, ‘No, no, everything’s fine. It’s died down, we’re good.’ So that’s when I first heard about it.

“Obviously, I wasn’t there. Who I perceive to be God is the only person who really, really knows the truth because everyone’s gonna have their own version in their head. We’ve all done it before where we’ve made up what we perceive to be the truth. What I’ve heard that is reported, there are elements of truth in it. But then there are also some things that raise a red flag to me. Like man, it seems like we’re only getting a portion of the story, or what this journalist wants to put out, whether he has a bias or whether he has a grudge against one or the other parties, that’s just how I felt. But I also knew that I didn’t know the whole story. I also felt that the stories that I’ve heard from a few people, I don’t feel like they would blatantly lie to me. So I do think there are bits of truth, but I also believe that some of the fans have read too much into it, and I think they should let, what happened, let it happen, and let it die down. When it’s all said and done, I can’t tell you that I know 100% of the truth, so I can’t tell you if the journalists that are reporting it is 100% of the truth. I know what I perceive to be the truth, and from things I’ve read and heard, there has partial truth, and there is partial things that are a bit exaggerated.”

Dax Harwood isn’t sure if fans will ever see CM Punk back in AEW, noting that there are legal issues currently preventing any discussion about it or an immediate resolution. Harwood says he can only speak for himself and would love to see Punk back, noting that it makes the wrestling business better.

“All I know is that I hope that he comes back. All I know is I feel that AEW should have the Young Bucks in their locker room. I know that I feel that AEW should have Kenny Omega in that locker room, and I know that I feel AEW should have CM Punk in that locker room. With those four entities in the locker room, it makes our talent roster so much deeper, and it makes our talent roster so much better, and it’s four guys who want to be the best. I know that. Regardless of what any of us think personally, I know that we all want to be the best, and I know we all want the best for professional wrestling. Because it’s given us a life that we could never have otherwise.

“This is my plea to all four guys us to please find a way to make it work because if we can make it work, man, we can set up the future of professional wrestling for a long time, and we can change the course of professional wrestling for a very long time. When you think about it unselfishly, we’re doing this for 20 years down the road, for 30 years down the road, so guys and girls can make a living.”
