David Price gives up five home runs in disastrous start against Yankees
David Price should have called into work with a “Fortnite”-related injury. The New York Yankees pounced all over the Boston Red Sox lefty, belting five home runs off Price over 3 1/3 innings.
David Price turns in disaster start against the Yankees
Price ran into trouble right away. In the first inning, he gave up a solo home run to Aaron Judge. After the next two hitters reached base, Gleyber Torres belted a three-run shot to give New York a 4-0 lead.
In the second, it was Aaron Hicks who struck. He hit a two-run shot, bringing the Yankees’ lead to 6-0.
The third was quiet. Price gave up a two-out single to Miguel Andujar, but also struck out two during the inning.
He didn’t last long in the fourth. Kyle Higashioka led off the inning with a solo home run. Two hitters later, Hicks hit another home run.
That ended Price’s night. In 3 1/3 innings, Price allowed eight runs on nine hits. Five of those hits were home runs.
Things didn’t get much better for Boston the rest of the night. They lost the game 11-1.
David Price has struggled against the Yankees
The Yankees have always performed pretty well against Price. Coming into Sunday’s start, Price had a 4.67 ERA against the team in 39 games. That’s one of his worst ERAs against any team.
When Price does have blow-up performances, they tend to come against New York.
David Price is only pitcher in MLB history to have 3 career games vs Yankees of fewer than 4 IP and 8+ ER allowed.

Price has mostly avoided New York in 2018
Prior to Sunday’s game, Price has made one start against the Yankees in 2018. He lasted one inning, giving up four earned runs. Price left that start with numbness in his pitching hand.
The next time Price was supposed to play the Yankees, he missed the start due to carpal tunnel syndrome. That caused some to question whether Price suffered the injury playing the popular video game “Fortnite.”
Because of that, Price joked about Sunday’s start, saying maybe he would back out of it with a “Fortnite”-related injury.
After his rough performance during the game, he probably wishes he did.
