David Margulies, ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Sopranos’ Actor, Dies at 78
David Margulies, the actor who played New York City’s mayor in the “Ghostbusters” film franchise and held a recurring role as Tony Soprano’s lawyer on “The Sopranos,” died Monday due to illness. He was 78.
Beyond his notable “Sopranos” appearances as attorney Neil Mink — a character that appeared on the show from 2000 to 2007 — Margulies filmed episodes of “Law & Order,” “Happyish,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “The Good Wife.”
His big screen career included roles in “Ace Venture: Pet Detective” (1994), “Nine 1/2 Weeks” (1986) and, most recently, crime drama “A Most Violent Year” (2014). Margulies was also cast as Nobel prize-winning author Elie Wiesel in 2016’s “Madoff,” a TV movie about financier Bernie Madoff’s infamous Ponzi scheme.
Also a prominent stage actor, the Brooklyn native made his Broadway debut in a 1973 revival of “The Iceman Cometh.” Throughout his stage career, he appeared in over a dozen Broadway productions, including “Comedians,” “Angels in America,” “45 Seconds From Broadway” and “Wonderful Town.”
