Watch: David Fincher signs exclusive Netflix deal

David Fincher believes that he should have directed more than 10 movies in his career.

In reality, Fincher has actually overseen 11 films as a director, however he has disowned his debut film Alien 3 ever since it was released in 1992, insisting that 20th Century Fox’s interference ruled his vision.

Fincher spoke to the French magazine Premiere, as reported by Collider, about his lack of output, starting off the discussion by admitting that he has just signed “an exclusivity deal” with Netflix for the next four years.

The legendary filmmaker, who has previously overseen the likes of Se7en, The Social Network, Zodiac, Gone Girl, and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, joked that, depending on the reaction to his new movie Mank, he will either “sheepishly” approach Netflix and ask what he “can do to redeem” himself, or he’ll “take the attitude of the arrogant a**hole who’ll require making other films in black and white.”

After then insisting that his job over the next four years is “to deliver them ‘content’ — whatever [that] means,” Fincher then admitted that he wants to “try very different things,” in an attempt to change the current “operating mode” of the movie industry.

It was at this point that Fincher admitted that he likes the “idea of having a body of work,” before then immediately adding that “it feels strange” to have only directed ten films “after 40 years as a director. “Objectively, it is a pretty terrifying observation.”
