Dave's Hot Chicken, a literally and figuratively hot tenders-and-fries chain that has drawn celebrity investors such as Samuel L. Jackson and Drake, will open its second Columbus restaurant Friday in the University District.

It's the 183rd restaurant opened by the chain — one of three opening on Friday alone — just six years after its start as a food stand in a Los Angeles parking lot. Dave's Hot Chicken opened its first Columbus restaurant at 3590 W. Dublin-Granville Road in September 2022; the new location is 1828 N. High St., across from the Ohio State University campus.

The University District restaurant will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, and from 10:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

Dave's jumbo tenders come with seven choices of heat, from no spice and lite-mild to extra-hot and "reaper." They're served by themselves or in sliders, with sides that include fries, cheese fries, macaroni and cheese, and kale slaw. All meals come with pickle chips.

The University District location is lined with fast-food and fast-casual chains. Among chicken places alone, Raising Cane's, Cluck A Doodle Do, Chik-fil-A, Buffalo Wild Wings and bb.q Chicken all have restaurants between Lane and 11th avenues.
