Dave Matthews Band takes the No. 1 Hot Tours ranking with revenue reported from its summertime tour through North American outdoor concert venues. Kicking off in Birmingham, Ala. in April, the 22-week tour included 34 amphitheaters and two stadiums, wrapping on Sept. 8 in the San Francisco Bay area. With an overall tour gross topping $40 million, more than 712,000 tickets were sold at 47 performances. The tour featured numerous artists as show openers – typical for the band’s summer touring efforts. This year a total of 23 acts provided support on select dates. The top-grossing engagement was a three-day run at the Gorge Amphitheatre in central Washington State on Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30-Sept. 1), the band’s traditional destination to close out the summer touring season. Total attendance for the weekend stand at the Gorge was 50,473. DMB is set to appear at the annual Farm Aid concert in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Sept. 21 and then finish the year with a handful of performances in South Africa and South America.

More from Billboard

Phish ranks second on the weekly Hot Tours tally with $18 million in sales from 20 concerts on its summer trek through the U.S. and Canada that launched in early July. The jam band’s top gross came from the final market, Denver in a three-show Labor Day run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. With sales topping $3.7 million, the Aug. 30-Sept. 1 stand marked the band’s third consecutive year to work the holiday weekend at the Denver-area soccer stadium.

The final numbers are in from the summer leg of Bruno Mars’ Moonshine Jungle Tour (No. 3) that ran from June 22 through Sept. 1 in North America. Reported during the past week were stats from 12 performances, but adding the sales that came in throughout the summer, overall revenue from the tour totaled $41.5 million from 43 concerts in 40 venues. Mars will begin the European leg of his tour on Oct. 2 in Belfast and will remain on the continent through late November.

Singer/actress Ariana Grande makes her first appearance on Hot Tours at No. 9 with box office stats reported from club and theater dates in 10 North American cities. With sellouts at eight venues, a total of 21,001 tickets were sold. The top grosser was a sold out concert on Sept. 9 at Club NOKIA in Los Angeles with 2,351 fans in attendance.
