If you were in Simi Valley, California, this past Monday night and just wanted to knock down some pins at Harley’s Valley Bowl, then you were probably pretty surprised by what you saw when you walked through the bowling alley’s door: Dave Grohl hopping on stage with Taylor Hawkins’ son, Shane Hawkins, to play a set of classic rock covers with the late Hawkins’ former side project Chevy Metal. Check out the setlist and watch videos of the performance below.
That’s right, Grohl joined the band for an upbeat, uplifting performance, which not only included songs from classic artists like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and more, but also featured additional guest appearances from living rock legends. Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gregg Bissonette, known for his work with David Lee Roth and others, all joined the band on stage.
But when legendary drummers weren’t on the throne, Shane kept the beat rocking. He previously appeared on stage with Foo Fighters in 2022 for the tribute concert in honor of his father, and also joined the band this past spring at Boston Calling. Last month, he played two shows with Chevy Metal in California.
The setlist for Monday’s night performance was an impressive offering of rock ‘n’ roll goodness. The band kicked things off with The Police’s “Next to You,” followed by Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak.” Then, they played some Rolling Stones, some Van Halen, some Sabbath, and even threw in a little Spïnal Tap. They closed the set with Smith on drums, playing AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds.” Check out the full setlist and fan-shot footage below.
