Dave Gettleman done talking about Odell Beckham Jr: 'No more Odell questions'

New York Giants training camp is off to a roaring start.

General manager Dave Gettleman is already losing his patience.

Given the context of perhaps the most stunning move of the offseason, the Giants arguably could least afford problems at the wide receiver position. At least in terms of perception.

WR injuries piling up

But that’s exactly what they’re dealing with in the opening days of camp.

Wide receiver Corey Coleman suffered a torn ACL on Thursday on the first full day of practice. He’s done for the season.

Sterling Shepard suffered a broken thumb. He’s sidelined indefinitely.

Gettleman asked about Odell Beckham Jr.

The news of these injuries is exacerbated by the departure of All-Pro receiver Odell Beckham Jr., whom Gettleman arranged to trade to the Cleveland Browns in February.

These are the kinds of things the New York media are letting Gettleman slide on, of course.

Nah, just kidding.

They’re letting him have it. Let the OBJ questions flow.

‘No more questions’

“Odell plays for the Cleveland Browns now,” Gettleman responded when asked about Beckham’s recent comments to GQ that he felt “disrespected” by the Giants. “We’re moving on. Wish him the best.”

Randomly reminded by a reporter that “you did trade him, right?” Gettleman had had enough.

“No more Odell questions,” Gettleman said.

Ok. So that’s the end of that. For now, at least.

How about the most criticized pick of the NFL draft, Dave?

“Give us some credit for the experience and our résumés,” Gettleman said when asked about rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, whom most agree the Giants made a significant reach for on draft day. “You know. It’s one of those situations where — you know, how many people — they’ve just got to trust. ... We’ve all been doing this a long time. We’re professionals.”

It’s not the first time Gettleman has pointed to his résumé while under fire.

“I’ve been to seven Super Bowls,” Gettleman said in April to NJ.com in response to the myriad of criticisms flowing in his direction. “I feel very strongly that I know what it should look like, what it should smell like, what it should taste like. And, so, you can look at me and say — well — I either know what I’m doing, or I’m a big fat rabbit’s foot. Neither one’s bad, right? I like my résumé so far.”

It won’t be long before Gettleman can’t point to his past accomplishments — which many would argue he holds an inflated view of — and will be judged directly by what’s happening with the Giants in the present.
