Dave Filoni reveals the fate of Sabine's Loth-cat on “Ahsoka”

Don't worry. The cat is fine.

Dave Filoni knows you’re worried about the Loth-cat on Ahsoka. And he wants to reassure you that the cat is just fine.

The latest Disney+ series introduced a whole slew of new faces to the Star Wars galaxy, but one of the biggest breakouts was of the feline variety. When the series starts, Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is living on the planet Lothal with a Loth-cat, a fluffy, four-legged creature named Murley. In the first few episodes, Sabine meets up Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), and the two jet off to a distant galaxy, leaving Murley behind. Star Wars fans were left wondering: What happened to Murley? Did Sabine hire a cat-sitter? Does he have enough food?  What’s the litter box situation???

While speaking to EW's Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Ahsoka series creator Dave Filoni responded to the fan obsession with Murley, revealing the fate of everyone’s favorite fuzzy alien feline.

“I don’t do the social media or any of that stuff, but it filtered through to me that people were worried that the cat got left alone,” Filoni told the Dagobah Dispatch with a laugh. “I’m like, I’m a pet owner! Of course I know what happens to the cat! But it was amazing that of all the things in the galaxy to be concerned about, the fans are concerned about the cat. It’s totally fair.”

Filoni went on to reassure fans that Murley is just fine. In fact, he’s probably living his best life on his native Lothal, while Sabine is stuck in another galaxy.

“With the cat, obviously, there’s a couple things at play,” the filmmaker explains. “First, I think Sabine would leave the door cracked open. Second of all, I think Murley’s smart enough to be able to move through the ventilation ducts and up and down that tower. I don’t think he needs to operate the elevator. I wouldn’t question if he could, but I think he can move up and down the ductwork to get out there to the ground level. Maybe there are other Loth-cats around. He’s not the only one.”

Besides, Filoni says with a laugh, a wild Loth-cat isn’t exactly your typical tabby. “I don’t think Murley is what I would call a domestic cat,” he adds. “I think it’s a wild cat that lives with Sabine, and she likes that fact and feeds it. Murley knows it’s a good situation, so it hangs out. Murley’s an opportunist and probably a bit of a pain in the butt.”

“But yeah,” Filoni concludes. “There could be a whole documentary on what happens to the Loth-cat.” Someone call Disney+!
