Dave Chappelle’s commentary on current events reportedly sparked a mixed reaction during a recent comedy show.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the 50-year-old shared his thoughts on the Israel-Hamas conflict to the cheers of some fans and the outrage of others during a show last week in Boston. His commentary included condemning the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, calling out war crimes in Gaza, and accusing the United States of aiding the death of innocent civilians.

After being told to shut up by an audience member, Chappelle reportedly continued to emotionally elaborate on his stance, criticizing the Israeli government for cutting off water to Gaza and accusing it of killing innocent people.

While a representative for the outspoken comedian claimed he “denies being in Boston” during the comedy show, advertisements from the city’s TD Garden venue highlight two performances from Chappelle scheduled for Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.

According to the report, some audience members cheered and agreed with Chappelle and shouted “Free Palestine,” while others yelled, “What about Hamas.” Others in the crowd left the show prematurely.

The DailyMail reports a ticketholder described their experience on social media, saying “The audience was cheering Chappelle on during his tirade. I was sick. We were sick. I turned to my friends and wife and said ‘I think it is time to go.’ We walked out and met up with many other Jews leaving the show. Never in my life have I felt so unsafe and so fearful of what I was witnessing.”
