Ultra-popular — and polarizing — comedian Dave Chappelle is coming back to Milwaukee.

Following a sold-out show at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater in 2021 for Summerfest — he was the first comedian to headline the venue — Chappelle’s next Milwaukee show will be at Fiserv Forum Oct. 17, part of his "It’s a Celebration B!%?#&$!" tour. Chappelle’s Summerfest concert preceded the October 2021 release of his Netflix special “The Closer,” in which the comedian made several jokes at the expense of transgender people. Chappelle’s commentary drew fierce criticism, including a walkout by some Netflix employees, and a Chappelle show at First Avenue in Minneapolis last summer was canceled following cries from critics that Chappelle’s comedy was transphobic and harmful.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos defended the special; “The Closer” was nominated for two Emmys and won a Grammy for best comedy album — recognition that also drew criticism.
