Dave Chappelle Apologizes for ‘SNL’ Monologue Saying to Give Trump a Chance (Video)
Dave Chappelle is the first to admit when he is wrong, and admit it he did during a set in New York City Monday night.
“I was the first guy on TV to say ‘give Trump a chance.’ I f—ed up. Sorry,” the stand-up comic told the audience, according to a tweet from NBC’s “Sunday TODAY” host Willie Geist.
Chappelle voiced his regrets about having misguided faith in President Trump while performing at a benefit diner for Robin Hood, a non-profit organization raising money for homeless people in New York.

Chappelle was referring to his “Saturday Night Live” opening monologue the weekend after the presidential election last November when multiple anti-Trump protests were breaking out around the country.
In it he said a recent visit to Obama’s White House — “where everyone was black except Bradley Cooper” — had made him “hopeful and proud to be an American.”

“So in that spirit, I’m wishing Donald Trump luck and I’m going to give him a chance,” Chappelle continued. “And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one too.”
The comedian also admitted that he was staying in a Trump hotel for his “SNL” hosting gig. “I don’t know if he’ll make a good president, but he makes a swell hotel suite,” he said.

“Housekeeper comes in in the morning and you have a big handful of pussy — boss said it’s OK,” the Netflix comedian quipped, before adding: “Sorry, Lorne!”
Chappelle closed his opener by saying: “I don’t know how Trump will do — but Obama did a good job.”
