Dave Bautista And Jason Momoa Team Up For New Buddy Comedy Movie, ‘The Wrecking Crew’

Actors Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa have been cast in an upcoming action comedy film titled, "The Wrecking Crew," which will reportedly be produced by "Blue Beetle" director Angel Manuel Soto.

The new film will also serve to bring Momoa and Bautista together again, following their roles in the post-apocalyptic Apple TV+ series, "See," where they played brothers at war.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Dave Bautista and "Aquaman" star Jason Momoa lead the cast of the upcoming comedy-action movie, "The Wrecking" crew.

According to The Wrap, the new MGM movie is set to be helmed by "Blue Beetle" director Angel Manuel Soto. It was written by Jonathan Topper before the commencement of the WGA strike.

Bautista and Momoa were also in talks to appear in the movie before Hollywood was hit with the SAG-AFTRA strike. As long as the strike continues, production of the film will have to wait.

At the moment, it's still unclear how long the strike could go on, but even when it's resolved, Momoa and Bautista's schedules could still serve as an obstacle to the film coming to fruition.

Per ScreenRant, both actors have a packed schedule ahead of them, with many film projects that will undoubtedly pull them away from "The Wrecking Crew."

For Momoa, he has movies such as, "Fast & Furious 11," "Minecraft" and "Chief of War" on his schedule. Bautista's busy calendar, on the other hand, is filled with projects like "Universe's Most Wanted," "Groove Tails" and "The Killer's Game."

Dave Bautista Tweets About 'Buddy Cop' Movie With Jason Momoa

In 2021, the WWE champion shared his interest in staring beside Momoa in a "buddy cop" style movie.

"Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens. Here we go…," Bautista tweeted, adding, "Me and Momoa in a Lethal Weapon type buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait."

Momoa later addressed Bautitsta's movie pitch during an appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden."

After being asked by the host if he was "into this idea," the actor responded, "[Bautista] literally texted me about four days ago, going, 'We need to do a buddy cop film.'"

Momoa continued, "We love each other. We obviously met on 'See.' We are on 'Dune' together. And I said, 'Absolutely.' And he said, 'Let's do it in Hawaii.' And I said, 'Let's do it. I have an idea.' So it's off to the races now. We are doing it." 

Two years later, "The Wrecking Crew" is the result of Bautista's tweet about making a movie with Momoa, except with Soto directing it and not "Deadpool 2" director David Leitch.

The Film's Location Hawaii Was Hit With A Tragedy

Going by what Momoa shared in his conversation with Corden on "The Late Late Show," "The Wrecking Crew" will be set in Hawaii.

Unfortunately, news of the movie comes amid the wildfire rocking the state. The shocking incident reportedly began on August 8, after a fire ignited in West Maui near Lahaina. 

Since the devastation, there has been a reported death toll of over a hundred people, with only five bodies identified at the moment. Over 800 people were also reported missing, per AP News.

Jason Momoa Is Busy With Relief Efforts For Maui

The "Game of Thrones" actor has been very busy helping with relief efforts for Maui residents. 

Momoa, a native of Hawaii, has especially been vocal online, using his platform to keep fans updated on the tragedy and letting people know what and what not to do to help support the residents affected by the wildfires.

Speaking on the Maui wildfire, Momoa wrote, "We are devastated and heartbroken for our friends and 'ohana on Maui who have been impacted by the recent wildfires."

The actor later warned visitors to stay away from the popular tourist destination amid efforts to help residents.

"Maui is not the place to have your vacation right now. DO NOT TRAVEL TO MAUI. Do not convince yourself that your presence is needed on an island that is suffering this deeply," Momoa wrote.

He concluded, saying, "Mahalo to everyone who has donated and shown aloha to the community in this time of need."
