In the early morning of May 31, 2015, Jason Steadman killed Dwayne Demkiw and then set the victim’s car on fire. In February 2019, an Edmonton judge sentenced Steadman to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole. Steadman was charged with first-degree murder. After the accused’s sentencing, the victim’s father, Eugene Demkiw, said,

“We’re relieved because it’s over now.”

Jason Steadman killed Dwayne Demkiw because according to CBC News, Jason’s girlfriend at the time, Angel Chalifoux, was Dwayne’s ex-girlfriend. Even though Angel Chalifoux and Dwayne Demkiw were not romantically involved, they were still very close. Key witnesses said that Jason and Dwayne had met each other in 2013. At that time, there was no animosity between the two men.

According to CBC News, Dwayne Demkiw was last seen alive on May 31, 2015. He worked as a limousine bus driver and the night before his death 15 men around Edmonton for a bachelor party. After the party ended, he was cleaning the vehicle.

The killer, Jason Steadman, hid in the parking lot dumpster for hours before finally making his move. He decided to end Dwayne’s life when he finished work. The weapon he used was a machete. He struck the 42-year-old in the head and neck and loaded the body in the victim’s car.

Eventually, he disposed of Dwayne’s corpse in a wooded area north of Innisfail. After doing that, he set the deceased’s car on fire.
