Darren Sproles has been a human highlight reel his entire career

Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles suffered a broken arm and torn ACL during the same play in last Sunday’s 27-24 win over the Giants. It was a gruesome injury and devastating blow to one of the NFL’s most unique players over the past decade-plus.

At 5-foot-6, 190 pounds, Sproles has redefined the “scatback” position, in terms of both his durability and dynamic style. His success has likely helped inspire teams to give legitimate consideration to other undersized players who perhaps wouldn’t have received the same opportunity if not for Sproles. Guys like Washington’s Chris Thompson, Baltimore’s Danny Woodhead and Chicago’s rookie standout Tarik Cohen all come to mind.

As things stand right now, Sproles – a three-time Pro Bowl selection – is only 539 all-purpose yards away from reaching No. 5 on the all-time all-purpose yards leaderboard. Doing so would surpass Steve Smith, Jr., Marshall Faulk and Tim Brown.

With the 34-year-old’s football future now in jeopardy, we decided to take a look at the top five plays of his brilliant career with the Eagles, Saints and Chargers.

  1. Punt return TD vs. Patriots, 2015

2. 73-yard TD vs. Steelers, 2016

3. 89-yard punt return TD vs. Jets, 2015

4. 72-yard punt return TD vs. Packers, 2011

5. Game-winning TD in OT vs. Colts, 2009
