Darren Criss to Star in and Executive Produce Ryan Murphy Series ‘Hollywood’ for Netflix

Darren Criss is set to star in and executive produce a new Netflix series alongside Ryan Murphy called “Hollywood,” the “Glee” star said in an Instagram post on Friday.

“Honored to say that I’m heading back to the House of Murphy where I’ll be starring in but also executive producing HOLLYWOOD with Time’s King of Television,” Criss wrote.

“Late last year, [Ryan Murphy] and I had dinner where he shared that he wanted to do a period piece that was young and optimistic. We landed on the idea of a series covering several narratives from 1940s Hollywood. We both left that evening feeling super excited about its potential. Two days later Netflix bought it. Not only is that a testament to the magic of Ryan Murphy, it’s a reminder of the kind of thing that can only happen in Hollywood…literally. Limited Series coming to [Netflix] May 2020.”

A rep for Netflix confirmed Criss’s casting Friday.

Murphy previously announced that the Ian Brennan co-created project had been ordered straight-to-series in an Instagram post in February, calling it “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown.”

Earlier this week, he revealed in a TIME cover story that Holland Taylor and Patti LuPone have also been tapped to star in the series.

Criss has worked on several projects with Murphy in the past, including “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” for which he won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for best actor in a limited series, “Glee,” and “American Horror Story.”
