in late March 2024, several outlets reported that Sony Pictures had obtained the rights to Caught Stealing. The reports also state that Dune Part Two actor Austin Butler will star in the crime thriller film as Hank Thompson. Huston is adapting his book into a screenplay.
“I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers,” said The Whale director.
Sanford Panitch, Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group’s president, spoke about what drew Sony to the project. “Darren is one of the most brilliant audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these wonderful books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star was too exciting an opportunity to not be a part of,” he said.
If production begins this year, Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing can premiere sometime in 2025.
