Jonathan Nolan, the brother of Christopher Nolan and co-writer of The Dark Knight saga, says he’d “absolutely” like to make more Batman films.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Nolan was asked if he’d ever be interested in returning to the Batman franchise at some point in the future.

“Wouldn’t that be a dream?” he answered. “That period was 10 years of my life [from] when I got the call to work on Batman Begins, and it was epic. Working with Christian [Bale], Heath [Ledger], Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and to honor an American icon. If I had the chance to go back and work on that again? Absolutely.”

Jonathan Nolan added, “We’ve moved onto other things. And, of course, other people have picked up the mantel and moved on with those characters.”

When asked who he’d like to see play the World’s Greatest Detective in a forthcoming Batman movie, Jonathan Nolan answered, “To me, it will always be Christian.”

What Batman movies did Jonathan Nolan work on?

Jonathan Nolan served as an uncredited writer on 2005’s Batman Begins alongside Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Jonathan and Christopher Nolan then co-wrote the scripts for 2008’s The Dark Knight and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises together.

Jonathan Nolan also created CBS’ Person of Interest and HBO’s Westworld television series, while he recently directed three episodes of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout.

There’s been no formal announcement as of yet regarding who will play Batman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s forthcoming DCU. Andy Muschietti has signed on to direct The Brave and the Bold, which will co-star The Dark Knight alongside Robin; although, it’s possible the character could make his DCU debut prior to that.

Matt Reeves, meanwhile, is working on another Batman movie with Robert Pattinson that is scheduled to be released in 2026.
